From chasing all the snakes out of Ireland to drinking green beer, what is St. Patrick’s Day all about?

In legend and religion, Saint Patrick is considered to be the patron saint of Ireland. He’s also seen as the representative of Ireland and Irish culture. March 17 is both a day of holy obligation and celebration for Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

This year, St. Patty’s Day falls during the beginning of spring break, but the managers of Ray’s Place, 157 Lounge and Zephyr Pub don’t think this will cause the day to go uncelebrated in Kent. In fact, they think because the holiday is on a Saturday more people will go out.

For those of you who aren’t planning to spend your whole day in church or leave early for spring break trips, here’s what’s going on in downtown Kent.
