Insomnia Cookies

295 S. Water St.

Kent, OH 44240

It is one thing to eat a cookie out of a box, but it’s a whole different experience to eat one right out of the oven. However, baking cookies is time consuming and comes with a chance of failure, especially at 1 or 2 a.m.

The solution to this problem is Insomnia Cookies. Insomnia is open 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. seven days a week and delivers to the Kent State and Downtown area.

Founder Seth Berkowitz started the company in 2003 to provide a new food option for students who stay up late studying and those who just like to stay awake late, Marketing Manager Renee Sarnecky said.

“It’s not the normal food offerings at that time of the day,” Sarnecky said. “It makes us pretty unique.”

All its cookies are kept warm until served, whether delivered or bought in-store. They are cooked perfectly, with a light crispness on the outside and cookie-dough softness on the inside.

“They’re just so warm and fresh every time you get them,” said Kate Gombert, freshman exploratory major. “It’s delicious.” Insomnia’s chocolate chunk is a great take on a classic recipe. The chunks of chocolate are melted and have just the right amount of sweetness.

If trying a deluxe selection, I would suggest the S’mores cookies. This chocolate cookie is filled with marshmallows, chocolate chunks and graham cracker pieces. The resulting cookie is melty, gooey and great for someone who loves chocolate and sweets. If you are not in the mood for chocolate, the white chocolate macadamia nut is a good choice. The cookie base is very buttery and full of white chocolate and nuts.

Regular cookies are $1.25 a piece, while deluxe cookies are $2.50. They offer bulk deals for residence halls and student organizations, Sarnecky said.

If it’s late at night and you have a craving for something sweet, Insomnia Cookies is a great choice.

“You can get them really late at night, which is nice if you’re ever hanging out with your friends and you’re up late,” said Bethany Hussong, a school counseling graduate student. “They’re always really warm when you get them so they’re really good.”
